THE REGULATED HUMAN: AN EVOLUTION SERIES – EPISODE 2 – This is an evolving series. As more people begin to notice there’s something beyond how they feel and experience the world, the conversation deepens.
How to Start Feeling Again Without Overwhelm (When you’ve been told to reconnect)
There often comes a point where you realise something feels… different.
Not dramatically wrong. Not overwhelming. Just slightly disconnected.
You might notice that you’re not really feeling things in the way you used to.
Or that you know something matters… but you can’t quite access the feeling of it.
And then comes the frustration.
Because the advice you often hear is:
“Just reconnect with yourself.”
But how?
Why “Trying to Feel More” Doesn’t Work
When you can’t feel much, the natural response is to try harder.
To think your way back. To analyse what’s going on. To push yourself to feel something, anything.
But this usually has the opposite effect.
Because the reason you feel disconnected in the first place is that your system has turned the volume down.
Not by mistake. But to protect you.
So when you try to force feeling back in… your system often resists.
Not because it’s failing but because it’s doing its job.
A Different Starting Point
Instead of asking: “How do I feel more?”
It can help to ask:
“How do I feel slightly more connected than I did a moment ago?”
That small shift changes everything. Because it takes the pressure of you and connection doesn’t return all at once.
It comes back in small, manageable pieces.
What This Can Look Like in Everyday Life
This doesn’t need to be complicated.
It might look like:
• pausing for a moment without reaching for your phone
• noticing your surroundings without needing to interpret them
• feeling your feet on the floor as you stand or walk
• allowing your shoulders to soften slightly
These are not techniques to “fix” anything. They are small signals to your system that it doesn’t need to stay on high alert.
And that’s where reconnection begins.
A Simple Way to Begin Listening Again
If you want something a little more tangible, you can start to notice how your body responds to things.
This is something I often guide people through using what’s called a sway test.
It’s not complicated.
It’s simply about becoming aware of your body’s subtle responses.
For example, you might notice a slight leaning forward or back
when you ask yourself a simple question like:
“Does this feel right for me?”
There’s no need to get this perfect.
You’re not looking for a strong or obvious answer. You’re just beginning to notice that your body is already responding, even if it’s very subtle.
And if you don’t feel anything at first, that’s completely fine.
That doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
It just means your system is still finding its way back.
This Isn’t About Getting It Right
There’s no pressure here to do this perfectly. You’re not trying to suddenly become deeply connected.
You’re allowing something to return… in a way that feels steady.
Over time, these small moments begin to build.
A bit more awareness.
A bit more clarity.
A sense of recognising yourself again.
You Don’t Have to Work This Out Alone
One of the most frustrating parts of this experience is being told that the answer is within… but not being shown how to access it.
And that’s where having some guidance can make a difference.
Not by giving you answers, but by helping you reconnect to your own.
If this is something you’d like to explore further, you’re very welcome to join me on the live session:
When You Feel the World Deeply
It’s a space where we begin to experience this together, in a way that feels manageable and supported.
You can find the details on the Zenpath app or check out the YouTube video below when I demonstrate it.
A Final Thought
You don’t need to rush this. Nothing has gone missing.
Your system has simply been holding things steady until it feels safe to let them return.
And when they do… it won’t be all at once.
It will be just enough.
If you’d like more support with this, you can explore the free resources inside the Zenpath app where you’ll also find a link to register for the free Zoom session, When you Feel the World Deeply
