The Sway Test Is Everywhere, But What Happens After?

Over the past few months I’ve noticed the sway test popping up more and more. It’s on breakfast TV, in wellness magazines, and in conversations people are having about intuition. Part of me smiles every time I see it, because for years I’ve watched this simple movement change people’s understanding of themselves in the most profound ways.

The sway test looks simple on the surface. You stand, you breathe, you soften your knees, and you notice the movement of your body. A gentle forward or backward sway, a feeling of openness or resistance. It’s a moment of truth without drama. A quiet doorway into something deeper.

What I’ve also noticed is that people often share the sway test as a quick trick. A way to get an instant answer or a fast sense of “alignment.” And while that can be helpful, it’s only the very first step. A single yes/no doesn’t tell you what to do with the information that rises. It doesn’t explain the emotions that follow, the memories that surface, or the physical sensations that can move through the body as your system begins to reorganise itself.

For many people the real challenge isn’t getting the answer. It’s holding the answer. Integrating it. Staying grounded enough that the body continues to feel safe as the truth starts to change you.

That’s the part I’ve always been most interested in.

When I teach Root & Reconnect, the sway test isn’t a party piece ( although I have used it at parties!)  It’s the language of the body. It helps us understand where we are anchored, where we are carrying other people’s emotions, and where past experiences are still shaping our reactions. It becomes a guide for Cleanse, Anchor, Protect. A companion rather than a tool. A way of slowly coming home.

I love that more people are discovering it. I love that the world is becoming more open to intuitive intelligence and the quiet wisdom of the body. But I also know, from working with hundreds of people, that this doorway leads somewhere. It asks for support, regulation, and steady integration.

The sway test is the beginning.  The real shift happens in what unfolds afterwards.

If you’ve been experimenting with the sway test and wondering why your emotions feel closer to the surface, or why your body seems to be speaking more loudly than usual, you’re not doing anything wrong. It simply means something inside you is waking.

And waking is easier when you don’t walk alone.
